As an artist who works with layered clear glass, Paul's journey in glass has also been a journey in learning how to control bubbles in his work. While bubbles are often just accepted as a part of the kiln process, it’s been his goal to eliminate any distractions or imperfections that take away from the finished artwork.

LaterWorkWinterJoy200x200 LaterWork TreesInTwilight200x200

In this webinar you’ll get a complete understanding of where bubbles come from, and how to deal with them effectively. Paul will discuss techniques to reduce or even eliminate bubbles from layered work, along with the key changes to firing schedules that will help you create bubble-free art.

This is a HUGE value!

Paul Messink is an award-winning kiln-work glass artist and noted international instructor who draws on prior drawing and painting experience to create hand-painted, multi-layered glass panels that present nature and figures in deep dimension. While mostly self-taught, Messink has been fortunate to learn from artists such as Susan Taylor Glasgow, Richard LaLonde, and Mark Salsbury.

Viewers frequently ask if a photograph has been embedded in layers of glass. But using only enamel applied by hand, Paul creates depth using several techniques including layering, diminishing size and color, texture, and translucence. He typically uses 9-35 layers of glass; they are then kiln-cast into a solid panel after all layers are complete.

Some of his awards include Best in Show at the 2019 Workhouse Glass National Exhibit, plus numerous First Place and People’s Choice awards at national and regional shows around the US and the UK.
