  • how to keep the walls of the bead a consistent thickness
  • how to read the heat base of the glass and evenly heat the bead
  • how to prevent bead collapse (and how to fix it when it happens!)

  • how to create, apply, and finish silver clay bead cores with decorative end caps
  • how to create a beautiful hollow (and a solid bonus bead) over the silver clay cores

Barbara Becker Simon has been a jeweler/goldsmith for over 50 years and a lampwork/bead artist since 1996. She received a Master of Fine Arts Degree in metalwork and jewelry from the University of Wisconsin. She’s traveled extensively in the United States and internationally as a Senior Instructor for the Rio Rewards Precious Metal Clay Certification Classes as well as workshops for Metal Clay and Lampworking. 

Her work has won recognition and awards (Saul Bell Design Awards, 2007 & 2011) and has been featured extensively in periodicals and books, including PMC Decade and the Lark books: 1000 Glass Beads and Showcase 1000 Beads. Barbara's own book, Metal Clay Beads, has been given high praise as a valuable and informative book for all levels of metal clay fans.
